Long Distance Hikes
Walking a long-distance trail is not merely about reaching a destination. It might also be a meditative journey that allows the hiker to reflect and to regroup, whilst shedding the distractions of everyday life. Hiking a trail teaches patience and resilience and offers an opportunity to embrace solitude within a quiet and expansive landscape. Yes, it is a wonderful sporting challenge (and you will certainly burn off many calories), but along the way you might discover that somehow your world starts to make that little more sense. Here are some of my personal favourites, and with just a little training and preparation, there are really no excuses ….

A 4-day hike along a magical coastline with beautiful vistas, pretty villages and a great dose of art, history, poetry, and politics. From Salvador Dali to Henri Matisse, via Walter Benjamin, Antonio Machado, and André Derain.
One of the 6 most beautiful coastal trails in the world. Four days and 80 km of rugged, wild and windswept natural beauty.
Wine, hearty cuisine, picturesque villages, nestled in the south-western corner of Germany right next door to France. Explore this hidden gem with a 5-stage itinerary.
Often overlooked when it comes to serious high altitude hiking. But what a beautiful place. Here's our suggestion for a five-day long distance hike, with the start and finish in Poncebos/Asturias.
For hard-core hikers there is always the 2,400 km Via Alpina, which takes at least 5 months to complete. For those with less time on their hands, here’s a 7-day itinerary from Tegernsee in Germany to Sterzing/Vitipeno in South Tyrol, Italy.
